About

Cord of three counseling

We are a Christian Clinical Counseling Agency committed to working to preserve the God-ordained institution of the family and to bring hope and emotional healing to those individuals in crisis. In carrying out our commitment, we employ people who possess high levels of integrity as well as strong Christian and clinical competencies. Our goal is to continuously rise above what the industry standards are to a mark of Kingdom Excellence.

This practice developed from the need for Christian based counseling services in Southeast Georgia and specifically out of a need for mental health services within our primary service area. Since we began providing services, we have seen families who are experiencing brokenness due to: Anxiety, Depression, Anger, Sexual Abuse, Substance Abuse/Addiction, Pornography, Marital Problems, Life after an Affair, and many other issues which have a detrimental impact on today’s families.

Guiding principles

Our Vision

We envision a ministry where Christ is exalted, His truth is upheld, and His Spirit guides the services of Cord of 3 in such a way that lives are transformed.

Our Values

In conjunction with our mission and vision, the leadership team developed our core values. While the mission statement identifies who we are and what we do, our core values statement, in effect, says how we do what we do. Core values are the fundamental beliefs of Cord of 3 that dictate behavior. They are a guard rail that keeps the ministry focused on our mission, pursuing excellence and commitment, by the staff, board, volunteers, and the families we serve. At Cord of 3 we hold these values and believe they are fundamental to how we live out our mission together.

Core Values

We are ROOTED in Scripture

"As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, [so] walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving."

Colossians 2:6-7 (KJV)

"All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works".

2 Timothy 3:16-17
We are RELATIONALLY Focused

Our connection with God and one another guides everything. We pursue loving relationships with one another. We believe life change happens in community where we strengthen each other to grow and become more like Christ.

"And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some [is]; but exhorting [one another]: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching."

Hebrews 10:24-25
We are MISSION Minded

We care deeply about fulfilling the mission God has called us to here at Cord of 3: to protect and preserve the emotional and spiritual health of the family."

"And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse."

Malachi 4:6
We are COMMITTED

We are committed to Christ, His Kingdom and His people.

"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen."

Matthew 28:19-20
We are INTEGRITY Driven

We believe that we can build on no other foundation than Jesus Christ, and, as we build on this foundation, the work we do will have the integrity to produce the fruit God intends.

"Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is."

1 Corinthian 3:12-13
We are EXCELLENCE Oriented

Our only measure of success is the standard of Excellence as set forth by Jesus Christ in the examples He set for us.

"Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour."

Ephesians 5:1-2

What to expect

Here at Cord of Three it is our belief that the problems and trials families and individuals are facing have developed over time through false beliefs about life and circumstances. By understanding family systems and the coping skills individuals have learned throughout their life, our therapists discern what false beliefs are driving the behaviors and choices leading into a families current emotional and spiritual brokenness. As these false beliefs are exposed, the therapists at Cord of Three work diligently to replace them with the Truth claims of God leading into emotional and spiritual healing.

If you are considering counseling for yourself, your family, or for a family member, please contact us. Our administrative assistant will be happy to answer any questions you have about our services or she can arrange for you to speak with one of our therapists to answer any questions. Anyone can be referred for counseling with Cord of Three. All you have to do is call us at 912-282-0992.

FAQ's

Confidential conversations between a counselor and a client are something that counselors are bound to by the ethical standards of their profession. The purpose of confidentiality is to provide a safe environment where a client will freely discuss his problems, without fear that very personal information will be revealed to others. This increases trust and the likelihood that all aspects of a given problem will be brought into the open. Confidentiality then is important for a good counselor-client relationship.
By law, there are three issues that can’t be kept confidential. A counselor is legally required to report cases of child and elder abuse. In cases where a client is an imminent suicide risk or is threatening harm to another person, confidentiality may be broken. These exceptions are to protect others, or the client himself. These are important and necessary exceptions. Any other disclosure of information about one’s counseling requires written permission.

There is another aspect of confidentiality that needs to be mentioned. Besides one’s conversations with a counselor, the very fact that he is receiving counseling is confidential. This is partly because in our society there still exists significant bias and discrimination toward those who seek assistance for mental and/or relationship problems. Therefore, at Cord of 3 we respect one’s desire to have the fact that he is coming to us be kept confidential, and we do all that we can to keep it that way. As the body of Christ, we should value personal growth and see Christian Counseling as a possible means to that growth. And as a result reduce the stigma associated with seeing a “counselor”? Our prayer is that this would someday be the case, that there would be no shame in seeking counseling. Rather, that it would be a desirable goal to be one who recognizes his struggles and has the courage to change even if it means seeking the help of a Christian Counselor (Rom. 14:13).

Our self-pay rate is $95 per hour and $120 for the intake. However, we offer counseling on a sliding scale with reduced rates so that finances do not have to be a hindrance to getting help. It is our goal to provide help regardless of financial circumstances. Please call our office to discuss rates.

  • A middle aged man who has spent the past 25 plus years rising up the corporate ladder and raising a family only to find himself depressed and having difficulty getting up and going to work. His life lacks meaning even though he has accomplished what a man like him is supposed to. He realizes that his relationships with is wife, family, and friends have deteriorated or are non-existent.
  • The young couple married 8 years. It seems all that they do is fight. With three kids, 2 jobs, and a mortgage they have little time for each other. Both wonder if this is all there is.
  • The 9 year old little girl has been experiencing severe anxiety over going to school. She often complains of not feeling well, and has difficulty getting along with other children. Her school performance is suffering.
  • A married woman, who by society’s standards has it all. She struggles with depression and anxiety. For years she has tried to deny that the abusive and dysfunctional home she grew up in was impacting her adult life. She has tried to put the past behind her, to follow Christ and serve him completely in all she does. Yet, the intrusive thoughts, the nightmares, the feelings of panic, and the difficulties with intimacy continue unabated.
  • The college student who was raised in a Christian home, yet you wouldn’t know it by how his/her life looks today. It began with missing church, being out too late at parties, and has ended up with an addiction to alcohol. The parents knew something was wrong by the dropping grades, but were shocked and ashamed upon learning the truth. As an elder in the church, this is not supposed to happen to one of his children.

The above stories are just a small sample of the “typical clients” that seek help at the Counseling Center. Clients come in all ages, race, socio-economic status, and gender. The problems in their current life range from mild to overwhelming and severe. Some come early, wanting to prevent something serious from developing. Others come when it seems to be too late and nothing sort of a miracle from God can change things. Fortunately, those miracles still happen.

In one sense all clients are typical. Everyone struggles to live in a stressful world, has difficulty in relationships, and carries some pain from their past. Every client must address the place of God in his life; will He be Lord or will he be ignored.
In a very real way no client is typical . Each is uniquely made by God and has lived a unique life and presents with unique issues.

We strive to bring relevant, competent, professional, and biblical counseling to each person God brings to the counseling center. Our prayer is to be used in a unique way, with that unique person, to accomplish God’s eternal purposes in that one’s life.

Our counselors have developed expertise in the following areas:

  • Anxiety and Depression

We believe the Bible to be the inspired, inerrant, authoritative Word of God. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three (3) persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe in the deity of Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory. We believe that, for the salvation of sinful people, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential and solely the work of God. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a life reflective of the commandments of God. We believe the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be the inspired Word of God and are the final authority in the life of man. We believe that the scriptures, alone, are to govern God’s People both in faith and practice. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.

Training and Discipleship

The Cord of 3 training and discipleship program serves the community by offering educational seminars on various mental health and related topics (parenting subjects, coping with loss, warning signs of addiction) as well as conferences, retreats, and seminars for area churches on matters that pertain to God’s design for the family.

Counselor Education & Supervision

Cord of 3’s Counselor education and supervision program is deigned to support interns who are completing their master’s degree, counselors who are working toward licensure, and professionals who are working to integrate their Chritian faith into their clinical practice.

Equine Therapy

Cord of 3’s equine therapy program is designed for individuals ages 7 and up as well as women ages 13+ and families. Equine therapy can help individuals and families overcome challenges, cuiltivate healthy relational skills, build trust, improve interpersonal and behavioral functioning, and create positive self-concept and identity in Christ.

Play God’s Way

A Christ-centered play therapy model to meet teh spiritual, emotional, and mental health needs of children. Through play therapy, children learn to accept responsibility for behavior, engage in healthy coping strategies, acquire problem-solving skills, develop empathy for others, and gain an understanding of identity in mChrist.

ADDICTION RECOVERY

Addictions always originate in pain… The question is never ‘why the addiction?,’ but rather ‘why the pain?’” (Dr. Gabor Maté). Counselors can help those struggling with addictions address underlying painful issues and then break the addictive patterns.

Child & Adolescent

Behavioral issues at home or in school often have an underlying cause, such as trauma, depression, anxiety, or other mental health conditions. The experienced staff at Cord of 3 meets each child with love, builds trust, and applies effective treatment that approaches the root cause of the behavior.

Marriage & Family

As in couple’s counseling, family counseling focuses on the relationship and dynamics within the family unit and between the individual members of it. Counselors will help clients identify unhealthy or unhelpful patterns, and to address them by developing healthier communication and conflict resolutions skills, create realistic expectations, and restructure familial roles to benefit everyone. The ultimate goal is to help the family be better able to thrive as a team.

STRESS & TRAUMA

Every person will at some point have at least one potentially traumatic experience, but this doesn’t impact everyone in the same ways. When struggling to process and move on from negative life experiences, therapy offers a powerful method of finding support and healing.

EMOTIONAL WHOLENESS

Individual counseling can help overcome the sometimes overwhelming fear and hopelessness by helping you better understand the conditions that led to the emotional brokenness you are experiencing, and applying healthy coping skills against them.
